The Farmers Fast Five: George Masefield
The Farmers Fast Five: Where we ask a Farmer Five quick questions about Agriculture, and what Farming means to them. Today we talk to Proud Farmer George Masefield.
How long have you been farming?
I was brought up on the family farm as the 5th generation, was involved in farming right from day one. There was 3 years where I was full time running a crutching trailers/conveyor to build up some equity
What sort of farming are you involved in?
Sheep and beef with a little bit of bull beef, we fatten all our lambs plus a few more. Try to carry cattle through to heavy weights to kill or sell to 5 star.
What makes you Proud to be a Farmer?
Being able to produce high quality meat in a sustainable way, I am proud and privilege to have the opportunity to farm on the same grounds that my father and grandfather and generations have before me, I would like to give my son the opportunity to be able to do the same
What do you love about your job as a farmer?
Love being out early in the morning with the dogs, the sense of accomplishment after a days work, being able to share my passion of farming with my family, seeing a line of stock go off the property knowing that they have been raised and produce to the highest quality.
Go out and work on other farms before you come back to your home farm, university degrees to not give you all the answers to farming, you can learn a lot from other farmers wether it's good or bad, don't be afraid to try new ideas, don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it and.
